Ganesha Chaturthi also known as Vinayak Chaturthi is celebrated as the Birth Anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the God of Wisdom and Prosperity of Hindu mythology.Lord Ganesha – the God of the single tusk, whose vehicle is the mouse and he who penned the Mahabharata with his own hands.A person observing the fast should wake up early in the morning and take a bath. After that he should sit on a raised platform and worship the idol of lord Ganesha with dhoop, incense and vermilion.Fruits, flowers, rice, roli are offered to lord while performing puja. Laddoos and Modaka, dishes made with sesame are also offered to Lord Ganesha.
The idol of Ganesha is installed at homes and temples and worshipped for ten days. The houses are cleaned up before the idol of Ganesha is installed.The idol is brought home with face covered with a saffron cloth amidst chanting of shlokas. Approximately 6000 idols of Ganesha are commissioned for Ganesha Chaturthi in Mumbai alone. Lord Ganesha is worshiped on this day. A popular myth associated with Ganesha Chaturthi is that one should refrain from looking at the moon on this day.
Ganesha mantras are siddhi mantras .When chanted with the proper pranayama (rhythmic breathing) and sincere devotion, they will yield good results. In general, Ganesha mantras will ward off all evil and bless the devotee with abundance, prudence and success. Evil spirits dare not enter the home or the mind of the devotee where Ganesha mantras are recited.One may always use it before beginning a journey, a new course in school, new career or job, or before entering into any new contract or business so that impediments are removed and your endeavor may be crowned with success.Repeat Mantra 11 ,21, 51 ,108 times( Count available),
This Ganesha Chaturthi Festival is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat and in all South India. In Ganesha Chaturthi Festival People brought their Home an Idol of Lord Ganesha. The Idol is made of Soil, Plastic, Plaster of Paris and now a day there are even Eco Friendly Ganesha Idol is also available. Idols are available in small to large sizes. Huge Ganesha statues which would be kept for public viewing after the Ganesha Chaturthi, are usually immersed on Ananta Chaturdasi, which falls 10 days after the first day of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival.
While celebrated all over India, it is most elaborate in western and southern India. Outside India, it is celebrated widely in Nepal and by Hindus in the United States, Canada and Fiji.
